Datong’s Cutting-Edge Technologies Support Construction of the Xiamen–Kinmen Bridge Forging a “Golden Corridor” for Cross-Strait Integration
2025-11-26
As a flagship project under China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, the Xiamen–Kinmen Bridge (Xiamen Section) is progressing rapidly. Spanning the waters between Xiamen and Kinmen, the project serves not only as a symbol of cross-strait connectivity but also as a showcase of China’s advanced bridge engineering capabilities. Datong has secured the contract to supply two core structural technologies, providing essential support for the bridge’s long-term safety and resilience.

The main offshore section is targeted to open to traffic by the end of 2026, with full completion expected in 2027. Once operational, the bridge will significantly shorten travel time between Xiamen and Kinmen, accelerating the formation of an integrated “twin-city living circle.”
Innovation Driving a Mega Project
To meet the complex marine conditions and stringent structural requirements of the project, Datong has leveraged its strengths as a specialized and innovative enterprise to deliver two industry-leading equipment solutions.
Anisotropic Friction Pendulum Bearings — Precision Multi-Directional Seismic Isolation
Winner of the China Highway & Transportation Society’s top science and technology award, this system is the result of more than a decade of joint research by Datong and leading domestic experts. By precisely calibrating curvature radii and friction coefficients in different directions, the technology enables differentiated seismic stiffness and displacement control, achieving isolation efficiencies exceeding 80%.Even under extreme environmental forces such as typhoon winds and large waves, the system significantly enhances structural safety and stability, ensuring rock-solid performance.
Custom Wind-Resistant Bearings — A Ten-Thousand-Tonne Stability Solution
Designed specifically for the wind-intensive strait environment, Datong’s wind-resistant bearings use a dual mechanism of friction damping and elastic restoring force. Each unit can withstand horizontal wind loads exceeding ten thousand tonnes and effectively suppress deck resonance. The technology has been proven in major national projects such as the Shenzhen–Zhongshan Link and has been further customized for the Xiamen–Kinmen Bridge, reaffirming the strength of China’s bridge equipment manufacturing.
“Chinese Intelligent Manufacturing” Safeguarding Cross-Strait Connectivity
The Xiamen–Kinmen Bridge (Xiamen Section) includes a 17.34 km mainline and a 2.275 km branch to Xiang’an. After completion, travel time between Xiamen Island and Xiang’an International Airport will be reduced to around 30 minutes, reshaping the region’s transportation network. As an “invisible guardian” of the project, Datong is contributing to China’s strategy for deepening cross-strait integration through technological innovation and reliable engineering solutions.
Looking Forward: Innovation as a Long-Term Commitment
From the Sichuan–Tibet Railway to the Shenzhen–Zhongshan Link, from the Qinghai–Tibet Highway to the Xiamen–Kinmen Bridge, Datong has consistently upheld its core values of focus, innovation, and reliability. Moving forward, the company will continue driving advances in bridge component technologies and contribute to the national vision of building a world-class transportation system.
