Structural Bearing

A structural bearing is a machine element which constrains relative motion between moving parts to only the desired motion, or

multidirectional motions as planned. The design of the bearing may, for example, provide for free linear movement of the moving part
or for free rotation around a fixed axis; or, it may prevent a motion by controlling the vectors of normal forces that bear on the moving
parts. Many bearings also facilitate the desired motion as much as possible, such as by minimizing friction by using appropriate sliding
surfaces such as stainless steel plate or PTFE sheet with silicon grease. In one word, bearings are designed to carry combinations of
vertical loads, horizontal loads, longitudinal and transversal movements, and rotations.

So far, along with the highly development of mechanism and civil engineering and construction, there are many applications where

a more suitable bearing can improve efficiency, accuracy, service intervals, service life, reliability, speed of operation, size, weight, and
costs of purchasing.
Bridge Bearings

A bridge bearing is a component positioned in a bridge structure which typically connects the bridge piers (usually refers to

substructures) to the bridge deck (or beam, usually refers to superstructure). The function of the bearing is to withstand controlled
movement by a safe and smooth transmission of vertical or horizontal load (forces) through contacts of bearings parts from the
superstructure of the bridge to piers and abutments, and thereby remit the stresses or torsions involved.

The movement could be thermal expansion or contraction, or movement from external sources such as seismic activity and bridge

transformation due to humidity changes or structural ageing. Therefore adequate vertical stiffness and elasticity are both required
since the design of the bridge bearing.

There are several different types of bridge bearings which are used depending on a number of different factors including the bridge

span and bridge shape. Weather condition and temperature factors are necessary to put into consideration during design and
selection the bearing. The oldest form of bridge bearing is simply two plates sitting on top of each other. A common type of modern
bridge bearings is the elastomeric bridge bearing. Another type which is widely employed is mechanical bridge bearing (pot bearing
or spherical bearing).

developed a series of seismic protection bearings, which were vastly used in civil engineering constructions over the country since the
last 5 years.
